Beulah
was the first purebred Nubian born on our little farm, so it was
a very exciting time for us and of course, we kept her! In
her first show as a 2 year old, first freshener she was fourth
out of nine does. We were happy with that. She has always been
a good, decent milker, and consistently given us very nice kids,
even though she herself is a nice, average, "a bit on the small
side", plain brown Nubian doe. Beulah Belle died at the age of 10, on June 23, 2007 from a stroke. |

"Jeannie" is my one and only Saanen, bought back in 1996
as a companion goat to our first ever registered Nubian doe,
Wynneshire La Questa's Chloe. Jeannie had an embarresing problem
for a doe; yep, you guessed it, a double teat. But that didn't
matter to me as she was just a companion animal, right? Jeannie
is quite the character around here and has been a tremendous
milker, even with her double teat. We don't have her in the
milking line up any more. We prefer to let her raise her own
kids, almost always boys, (drat!). She does an excellent job
and her wethered boys bring in hay $$ we need. IF she
ever produces a doeling for us, I am inclined to keep it and
start a S-Nubian line! Well, may be not. But at 10+years old
now, she is still the herd boss over all my pretty Nubians
and has a very special place in our hearts. If I can be so
bold and quote one linear appraiser who has appraised her in
the past: "She is a tremendous doe; everything you want in
a milking doe of any of the dairy breeds; until you
come to her mammary system; it's a train wreck!" |
